Company Overview:
Biocel is an established Irish chemical manufacturer specialising in the production of cleaning, sanitising, and related chemicals for the dairy and agri-food industry. Operating to rigorous quality, food safety, and environmental standards, we are growing our production team and are seeking a motivated General Operator to join us on a permanent basis.
Role Summary: The Production Manager
Key Responsibilities:
- Carry out filling, packing, and all other production activities associated with the manufacture of chemical liquids and powders in accordance with standardised work instructions and batch manufacturing records.
- Set up, operate, and adjust processing and filling equipment in line with production schedules and product specifications; carry out basic first-line maintenance and promptly report any faults or breakdowns.
- Verify product labels, batch codes, and container weights/volumes at line against specifications before release; escalate any discrepancies immediately to the Production Supervisor.
- Handle, store, and transfer raw materials and finished goods correctly, including hazardous chemicals, in compliance with COSHH requirements, Safety Data Sheet (SDS) instructions, and site storage procedures.
- Wear and correctly use all required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including chemical-resistant gloves, safety goggles, aprons, and respiratory protection as specified in the relevant risk assessment or SDS.
- Complete production batch records, daily logs, and any other documentation accurately and in a timely manner as required by the Production Supervisor, ensuring full traceability of materials and finished products.
- Identify and report any deviations from quality standards, near-misses, accidents, or environmental incidents to the Production Supervisor without delay.
- Perform scheduled cleaning and sanitising of equipment, vessels, and work areas in line with cleaning schedules and Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) standards; maintain high standards of housekeeping at all times.
- Comply with all company quality, environmental, health and safety, and food safety policies and procedures, including ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and FSSC 22000 requirements, as trained.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Previous experience in a chemical manufacturing, food production, pharmaceutical, or similar regulated production environment is desirable; motivated candidates with a strong work ethic and willingness to learn will also be considered.
- Ability to read, understand, and follow written work instructions, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and safety data sheets.
- Awareness of, or willingness to be trained in, chemical handling safety, including COSHH, manual handling, and the correct use of PPE.
- Physically capable of meeting the demands of the role, including standing for extended periods, lifting, and working in the presence of chemical substances while wearing PPE.
- Reliable team player with a conscientious approach to quality, safety, and accuracy; good attention to detail and numeracy sufficient to check weights, volumes, and batch quantities.
- Good hand-eye coordination and dexterity, with the ability to carry out repetitive tasks to a consistently high standard.
- Forklift licence (counterbalance or reach truck) is an advantage but not essential — training can be provided.
